Construction started in May 2023 on the Stage Six expansion of Burnside Village following completion of site excavation and preparation works. In October 2023 construction reached ground level.
The Stage Six expansion will build on the Village’s reputation as a world-class shopping destination with three levels of retail including a new premium mall, a new dining experience, home and lifestyle, entertainment, and a health and wellbeing precinct.
It will add an additional 80 new stores and double the footprint of Burnside Village to 38,850 square metres. There will also be over 560 free undercover carparks and e-Vehicle charging.
The Cohen Group’s multi-million investment is currently the largest private sector retail property expansion in South Australia and a sign of the Cohen family’s confidence in the South Australian economy.
Titanium has been appointed the development managers by the Cohen Group on the development of Burnside Village since 2017. Titanium worked with international retail architects, RTKL and Buchan Group, to establish a long-term masterplan for the 3-hectare site. This identified that the Cohen Group needed to secure the remaining property on Greenhill Road to facilitate the Masterplan.
Titanium then delivered the 2020 state planning approval for the 10 year of a Masterplan to be developed in multiple stages on the site. This provided the Cohen Group confidence to take a long term approach and commence planning for the first stage of the plan, Stage 6.
Titanium managed the design development of the Centre with the Cohen Group and appointed RCP as the Project managers and the Buchan Group to provide the architectural and interior design for Stage 6. The new design complements the existing mall aesthetics, and the crowning jewel of the Centre will be its 2,000 sqm custom grid shell glass roof that will provide an abundance of natural light.
Construction of Stage Six is being undertaken by national construction firm Hansen Yuncken, supported by a network of local contractors and suppliers.
Burnside Village was established by the Cohen family in 1971 and has evolved and expanded to meet the needs of its customers and community by providing a curated retail offering in a relaxed, village atmosphere.
Burnside Village was awarded the number one position in Australia in 2022 and 2021 for MAT sales in centres below 20,000 square metres by the Shopping Centre News.
The Burnside Village Stage Six expansion is expected to open early 2025. Titanium continues its involvement in the project through its development advisory services by Richard Hamilton and tenancy design management role provided by Andrew Falson and his team.
